The Global Inspection Bureau (GIB) Supervisory Unit has formally announced the initiation of legal proceedings following the failure of Mr. Leonardo Ferrari to comply with a VAT-related penalty associated with an international shipment transiting through the Republic of Turkey.

The penalty, amounting to USD 20,000.00, was imposed due to delays in VAT settlement that resulted in the disruption of the shipment clearance process and constituted a breach of applicable international shipment and regulatory compliance frameworks. Despite formal notification and a clearly stipulated deadline of 16 January 2026, the required payment was not received.

Consequently, VAT clearance for the shipment remains suspended, and GIB has proceeded with legal action in accordance with regulatory protocols. Mr. Ferrari has been summoned to appear before the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice on 26 January 2026 to respond to charges arising from this non-compliance.

GIB has further clarified that any consideration for relief, settlement, or compliance adjustment will be subject to judicial review and may only be considered at the discretion of the court. Such consideration will be contingent upon Mr. Ferrari’s full acknowledgment and acceptance of the court’s final ruling.
